LAMATA will complete all infrastructure by the end of this year - LAMATA Boss

... Compensation paid to owners of properties and tenants

The rail system  being managed by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority , LAMATA,Phase I of the Blue Line and the Red Line will be completed by the end of the year.

The Managing Director, Lagos State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo made this known during a media chart on TVC  'Your View' in Lagos.

"Right now we are building the  blue and the redlines The blue lines is starting from Okokomaiko and goes all the way to Marina.

"If you know that corridor very well then you can think of the traffic that seat there on a regular basis. So when we are able to transport people enmass we would ease transportation or traffic in that area.

"So we would complete all infrastructure by the end of this year.

"We would  begin testing and commissioning by January .So by first quarter of 2023 we would have the first passenger operation.

"We are also doing red at the moment and going from Agbado all the way to Marina.

"In building any rail system we would start them and build them in phases. So when we say the blue lines goes from Okokomaiko, all the way to Marina,

"The first phase is the only one we are building at the moment and is from Mile 2 to Marina. Which is about half of what it is, So we will be doing the commissioning of Mile 2 to Marina and that is the blue lines.

"Okokomaiko will start after we have tested, started to operate the blue lines..

"Now, this is the normal thing., no where in the world  would you build a 27 kilometers railway in one go, usually you will do it in phases.

She said in fairness, LAMATA has been saying we would do the blue lines in phases.

"Now going to the redlines is the same. The redlines is 37 kilometers and it goes from Agbado all the way to Marina and we are doing the first phase of it and that will be from Agbado all the way to Oyigbo.

She said in fairness redlines has been probably the most lucrative lines in terms of ridership.

"When you look at that corridor, that is the one that probably has the highest demands.

"Lagos is recognising sub- hubier of Lagos and that extends to Ogun State. Some we say Agbado actually is in Ogun State, but we know that a lots of people comes from there to Lagos and that is why the lines has gone all the way into Agbado.

She.said Marina is actually an interchange that has every mode of transportation that Lagos is able to deployed.

The LAMATA boss said Lagos State is now encouraging and implementing Non Motorized transport within Marina.

"For the blue lines, in total we have 11 stations  but the one we are building now: Mile 2, Alaba, Iganmu, National Theatre and Marina.

"For the red lines project we have compensated everybody. Over five thousands people have been compensated  for the red lines project in the space of  less than two years.

"Lagos state will proudly say that we are the first state that will not only pay the owners of properties, we have paid tenants to move out of tenanted property and also pay the owners of property just facilitate the movement and also the implementation process.

"And I know that when  we are doing the blue lines the issue they have at the time was that you have to demonstrate your ownership.

Akinajo affirmed that contractor has been paid for the one already done and completed.

LAMATA boss emphasised that " Lagos is the only sub- national that is building a rail.

Akinajo "We will have national grid and we would have our back up hundred percent. We have a UPS systems that says my train will not go down for one second.
