Director General of the Nigerian Maritime and Safety Administration, NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola has disclosed that the NIMASA is not bringing the Centurion University Cadets back but to review how the university is been engaged and also ensure that the Cadets come back as well trained graduates and not half backed.cadets.
Dr. Mobereola made this known during an interactive session with maritime journalists today in Lagos.
He said the platform for the Cadets must be right.
His words " we have not decided to bring those students back home. What we are doing is reviewing how the school has been engaged. Is it in the students best interest? Are they going to be good products of the university? These are the issues on our table right now. There is no single day we do not deliberate on it. And we are coming out with best approach. He promised.
On the issues of Modular Floating Dock, the Director General, NIMASA, Dr. Mobereola affirmed that the agency is working to make sure modular floating dock is put into a very good use.
"The original plan was not right. We are going to take modular floating dock to a very very good use"
He confirmed that the CVFF is with the Federal government and that it is for the use of shipowners.
He said that it was based on the experience of the past when beneficiaries could not pay back the fund but now looking at opportunity to start the disbursement which benefit the sector.
He explained further on the issues of retirees which he said will be looked at. "It is unfair that retirees worked for us and have not been paid. We are collating data for the ministry of marine and blue economy to know how many are they and you know many of them are dead"
On the issues of bilateral diplomacy, the Director General said he can only do better on what his predecessor has done.
" Some of the processes gone for are not solidified and we are looking at more opportunities now.
He further stated that the issues of debt recovery was a speculation and that the fact is that many companies owned NIMASA.
" As we speak today, we have engaged two companies on money recovery for NIMASA and for the benefit of the nations.
Dr. Mobereola added that NSIB are responsible to carry out investigation if there is accident on the water and report to Minister or Director General.
