NIWA, Stakeholders deliberate on high tides, flooding in Lagos.


The National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA, has warned boat operators and ferry service providers to observe necessary rules to avoid boat mishap.


According to the statement made by the Lagos Area Manager , Mrs. Sarat Braimah after a stakeholders meeting on water transportation to deliberate on expected high tides and incidence of flood in littoral communities across Nigeria.


She said that flood had breached socioeconomic and environmental lifelines of most states in the country, rendering people homeless and destroying farms, lands and livestock.

LASWA, AFD creates Wide-lag project to improve water transportation system


The Lagos State Waterways Authority,  LASWA says it is partnering with the French Development Agency, AFD, to engender improved water transportation system in Lagos.


General Manager, LASWA, Mr Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, disclosed this in Lagos when the AFD team visited the LASWA headquarters at Falomo, Lagos.


The visit was to kick-start preparatory study of the AFD Wide-Lag Project which  required expertise for inland water transportation, adding that both organisations were creating the Wide-Lag Project together to improve water transportation in Lagos.

Western Marine Customs Command seized  cannabis sativa worth 2billion 

The Western Marine Command of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has seized goods worth  N2.2billion including; 29,660 parcels of cannabis; 1575 bags of rice; 28735 litres of petrol in four months.

Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Abubakar Umar disclosed this during a press briefing in Lagos stating that the seizures were made between June and October, 2022.


 The seized items consists of  Cannabis Sativa (Marijuana) weighed 16,663kg and estimated to be N2,061,000,000;  the seized 1575 bags of foreign parboiled rice equivalent to more than 2 trailer load of rice and worth N39,375,000

The Controller of Apapa Customs Command Comptroller Yusuf Malanta Ibrahim has stated that the command has collected a total sum of Seven hundred and ninety billion, Six hundred and thirty million, Four hundred and six thousand, Nine hundred and eighty naira, Ninety-six kobo (N790,630,406,980.96) as revenue generated between January September 2022.


This was made known  while briefing the press on the activities of Apapa command in Apapa.


He said "In the period under review, the command has collected revenue to the tune of Seven hundred and ninety billion, Six hundred and thirty million, Four hundred and six thousand, Nine hundred and eighty naira, Ninety-six kobo (N790,630,406,980.96).

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has cautioned motorists queuing up for fuel at different filling stations thereby causing serious traffic gridlock to other road users.


The General Manager,  LASTMA Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, made this known through Director Public Affairs, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq,  while deploying more Officers to monitor traffic around filling stations across the State.

The PDP candidate who  made the promise in Badagry when he visited a coalition of artisans and PLWDs in the Agamadeh part of Badagry, in continuation of his campaign tour of Badagry, Ojo, Amuwo-Odofin, and Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Areas of the state, further stated that one of the  PLWDs will also serve  as  commissioner.

The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has pulled down an ongoing illegal construction built under a powerline along Church Street, off AIT Road, Alagbado, Lagos.


This was disclosed by the General Manager of the Agency, Arc Gbolahan Oki during the Agency team's routine monitoring and enforcement exercise carried out at Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos.


Oki, who was represented by the Director of Enforcement and Compliance Unit, Olusoji Olaopa during the monitoring exercise, stated the owner/developer did not only build under the powerline but that the entire structure is in violation of the building codes of the State.

In its bid to build a very formidable and strong ship owners association, the Nigerian Shipowners Association, NISA, has set up a six-man reconciliation committee to bring back the aggrieved members who had left the association.


A non-member and former National President, Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents, ANLCA, Prince Olayiwola Shittu and five members of the association  were  nominated into the reconciliation committee for a successful reconciliatory move.


The committee, which is chaired by Mr. Akin Akinyemi, has Engr. Emmanuel Ilori, Capt. Adewale Ishola, Barr. Paul Omolodun and Mr. Edmund Martins as members,  has 20 days to do it work as it is expected to submit its report on November 10, 2022.

The Comptroller General of Customs Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), CFR and the entire Officers and men of Nigeria Customs Service announced the death  of Comptroller Anthony Ayalogu. 


Ayalogu who until his death was the Customs Comptroller in charge of the Trade Facilitation Unit of the Service.

The global average of women participation in governance is 22.5% and the African continent rated 23.5%, while   Nigeria's 6.7% women  participation in governance is  worrisome when compared to the West African sub-regional average of 15%.

The Lagos State Government says its decision to put a stop to motorcycle operations in 10 Local Governments (LGs) and 15 Local Council Development Areas, (LCDAs) of the state still remain effective.


In a statement released by the Ministry of Transportation  which was duly signed by the Commissioner, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde stated that there has been peace and improvement in security in areas where the activities of Okada operations have been halted, restating that the Security Agencies are on alert to continue to enforce the ban without any compromise.

The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders , NAGAFF, 100 percent Compliance Team has accused the management of APM Terminals of frustrating the scanning process at Apapa Port in an attempt to collect more money for demurrage charges.


At the press briefing in. Lagos the Chairman of the Compliance Team, Ibrahim Tanko, commended the Nigeria Customs Service management for making the scanning machine available and the utilisation proper.

The West African Examinations Council, WAEC Nigeria in its pursuit to meeting the growing global demands, and ensuring prompt service delivery,  has announced Thursday, October 20 for the launch of the digital certificate platform.


According to a signed statement by the Acting Head, of Public Relations, WAEC Nigeria, Moyosola Adesina, the platform, a mobile and web-based application was designed specifically for candidates, individuals, institutions, and organizations to access, share, request, confirm certificates and recover forgotten WAEC candidates’ examination numbers.

The Managing Director/CEO of Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, has called on residents to join the fight against plastic pollution, by bagging and containerising their waste.


Odumboni made the call in his office highlighting the dangers and health implications of  indiscriminate waste disposal, especially plastic waste, known to clog water bodies, causing hazards to aquatic life in the state.

 Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission, ICPC, and Federal Ministry of Transportation has inaugurated the Anti Corruption and Transparency Monitoring Unit, ACTU, of the Nigerian Shippers' Council, NSC in Lagos.

ACTU is the ICPC initiative in charge of carrying out system check, investigation and prevent corruption in government ministries and agencies. 


The Chairman,  ACTU, Federal Ministry of Transportation, Oliver Chukwu said the Minister of Transportation, Mu'azu Jaji Sambo said "The Minister of Transportation, Mu'azu Jaji Sambo is in support of all what you are doing. Comptroller General Strike Force arm of the Nigeria Customs Service in Zone ‘A’ has  intercepted smuggled items including a pump action riffle, locally fabricated pistol, cartridges among other items worth N390,198,000 and generated N748,679,337 as revenue within the period under review.

Employment Clinic: Stakeholders Urge FG To Provide Adequate Infrastructure To Tap $9 Trillion Dollars In Maritime Sector

Stakeholders have urged the Federal Government to provide adequate infrastructure to tap the $9 trillion resources in the maritime industry.


They said this was the only way one million jobs could be accessed by the jobless youths.


Speaking at an Employment Clinic, organised by Ms Ronke Kosoko, the stakeholders consisting investors in the maritime sector, terminal operators, politicians, students among others, said lack of infrastructure is one of banes of availability of job opportunity. They said if the government can put infrastructure in place, then the investors can tap on that to create employment. They said: "The rate of unemployment among Nigerian youth is alarming, and looks unsolvable despite abundant natural and human resources the country is abundantly blessed with.

Speaking  at the IADI - ARD Committee Workshops and Annual General Meeting on "Normality In Turbulent Period: The Stabilizing Role of Deposit Insurer in Abuja, Sokefun said  global economic growth continued to weaken, as indicated by the trajectories of many macroeconomic indicators.
