No Civil Service Rule that exempts government workers from paying waste bills - LAWMA MD

Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, has called on residents in the state to support efforts of the Authority to rid the environment of filth, by paying their waste bills promptly.


According to a press release signed by the Director. Public Affairs, Mrs. Folashade Kadiri,  the Managing Director/CEO,  Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni said payment for waste services was very crucial to achieving the state’s vision of establishing a cleaner and livable environment, adding that no one was exempted from paying waste bills, regardless of occupation or societal status.


“We want to appeal to all residents in the state, to make it a duty to pay their waste bills. This is very important because the operations of service providers, rely heavily on people paying for waste services. As a matter of fact, nobody is exempted from this, including civil servants”.

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, LAMATA,says the pilot phase of the use of Compressed Natural Gas, CNG, powered buses for passenger operations will soon begin on Marina/CMS to Lekki and Ajah-Epe routes.

LAMATA’s Consultant, Corporate Communication, Mr Kolawole Ojelabi, made known that under the pilot phase, 10 high occupancy vehicles would be deployed for the service.

His word “The operation, franchised to a bus operating company named Femadec, will progressively increase the number of buses to 100 after data has proven the sustainability of the use of CNG.

Maritime stakeholders have shown their displeasure  over the recent media outburst of some freight forwarders against the operations of Federal Operations Unit(FOU) Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service and the CG's Strike Force

Nigeria seeks N11 trillion new loan to finance 2023 budget deficit


The Minister of Finance and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, has said the federal government will borrow over N11 trillion and sell national assets to finance the budget deficit in 2023.

The minister made this known while appearing before the House of Representatives Committee on Finance to defend the 2023-2025 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper.

While explaining the two possible options to the committee, the minister said the first option involves retaining the petroleum subsidy for the entire 2023 fiscal year.

The Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigrations Service has advised that Nigerians should stop relating with touts but with Immigration officers for a smooth operation.


The Controller Immigration, Seme border Command, Controller (Dr) Chukwemeka Micheal Dike disclosed this in a chat with members of Maritime Journalists’ Association of Nigeria (MAJAN).


Speaking on the efforts of the Controller General of Immigration, Alhaji Idris Isah Jere to make issuance of passport a seamless thing, Compt. Dike disclosed that the CG has 3 cardinal objectives: to ensure that Nigerians get passports easily without challenges.

” It is his expectation that the issue of delay in passport issuance will soon be a thing of the past. He has advised that Nigerians stop relating with touts but with Immigration officers for a smooth operation "he said.

The President and Chairman of Council of the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIoTA) Dr. Bashir Yusuf Jamoh invites stakeholders to the Institute's Capacity Building Workshop scheduled to hold virtually on the 20th September, 2022.


According to a statement issued by the Institute's National Publicity Secretary and Chairperson Media and Publicity Committee Mrs Chizoba Anyika, the capacity building workshop is part of the Institute's training strategies aimed at upgrading the technical knowledge and expertise of members and stakeholders in the transport and logistics Sector.


Anyika said the objective of the workshop is to upgrade members and stakeholders while  diversifying the Transport Industry.

Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has stated that the Agency will continue to take deliberate steps to work with critical institutions and professional bodies to reposition Nigeria’s maritime industry. 


 The Director General of the agency Dr. Bashir Jamoh, who spoke during a courtesy call by a branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to NIMASA, said that working with the association and the judiciary was sacrosanct to the Agency, given the complex and time sensitive nature of maritime issues and the attendant requirement for prompt resolutions.

Sanwo-Olu Flags Off Construction Of Largest  Food Security Systems and Central Logistics Park in sub-Saharan Africa.  

 

The Lagos State government ably lead by its amiable governor, Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu has flagged off the construction of what will be the largest Food Security Systems and Central Logistics Park in sub-Saharan Africa. 

The governor on Wednesday, performed the sod turning at the site of the facility being built on 1.2 million square metres of land in Ketu-Ereyun, Epe. 

Establishment of the food park is a component of an audacious five-year Agricultural and Food Systems Road Map (2021–2025) launched last year by the Sanwo-Olu administration to enhance food sufficiency in Lagos.

The central food and logistics hub is expected to create direct wealth for more than five million traders in the agricultural value chain, while guaranteeing uninterrupted food supplies to more than 10 million Lagosians, at least 90 days, in a period of scarcity.

The Acting National  President of Association Nigerian Licensed Customs Agent,  Dr. Kayode Farinto stated that the forceful break int the National  Secretariat of the Association  on Wednesday, while the National executives were on national assignment to the Lekki Deep seaport was carried out by those members who have been  expelled from the Association.


Farinto condemned the attitude of the commissioner of Police Lagos state to the crisis rocking the association, he noted that the commissioner is culpable and need to explain his role in the association crisis.
