CIoTA to hold 2022 National Transport Summit to discuss plethora of security issues within the modes.

The National Executive Council of the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria headed by the President and Chairman of Governing Council Dr Bashir Yusuf Jamoh has announced the dates for the Institute's 2022 National Transport Summit.  The engagement is scheduled to hold from November 29 to 1st December 2022 at Shehu Musa Yar'Adua Centre Abuja by 10:00a.m. daily.

According to the National Publicity Secretary, CIoTA Mrs. Chizoba Anyika, the theme for the Summit is Transport Safety and Security Administration in Nigeria, and its  will discuss maritime safety and security, safety and security of road transportation, safety and security of rail transportation, the value of life for the evaluation of safety and security.

The Chairman of MTN Foundation, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi will Chair the Summit. The Honourable Minster of Transportation, Alhaji Muazu Jaji Sambo is the Special Guest of Honour.

Anyika emphasized that the Institute in collaboration with Sectoral Agencies and Departments have selected an array speakers and discussants to brainstorm on the plethora of security issues within the modes. 

She recalled that the Institute is currently in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), jointly undertaking campaigns in most Lagos motor parks to educate drivers on safety related matters ranging from putting away rickety vehicles, worn out tyres, drunkenness or sleeping behind  wheels and other anathema to decency in road usage.

 In her words," the Institute is committed in carrying out advocacy, education and training to ensure best practices in the transportation sector."

"The menace caused by drivers of articulated vehicles on Nigerian roads has resurfaced with the presence trucks parking indiscriminately on the Lagos Apapa axis."

"However, it is not only the manner these articulated vehicles are parked on the road that poses a menace, the manner at which they are driven is also a major challenge.'

Anyika said the concern of the Institute again is on the safety aspect of fuel-laden tankers. We can continue to partner with sectoral organizations and departments to look at road, rail infrastructure development and maintenance, abduction, kidnapping, etc

In response to these  the Institute anounced dates for the annual summit to partner with law enforcement officers and other relevant institutions she said.
