The  Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, led a high-powered delegation to assess the Service’s first-quarter performance and chart the path forward at 62nd regular meeting of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS,  Board
held on Tuesday, April 29 2025, at the Service’s Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.

The board meeting served as a statutory forum to evaluate the Service’s operational strategies, fiscal contributions, and reform-driven activities, particularly in light of its Q1 2025 performance. During the quarter, the NCS recorded a historic ₦1.75 trillion in revenue, exceeding its target by ₦106.5 billion and marking a nearly 30% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

Following the meeting, the Minister, who chaired a session, expressed satisfaction with the Service’s progress but emphasised the need to scale up efforts to meet the country’s economic demands.

“As is expected and required, there is an improvement in the revenue of the Service, which is slightly above what was budgeted for the first quarter. However, much more is required, and more is expected of an institution that is pivotal in revenue,” he states.

Minister Edun described the board meeting as productive and reaffirmed the importance of open governance and accountability within public institutions.

“It was a good meeting. It's important that we maintain corporate governance oversight and consultation through these regular statutory meetings. At the end of the day, we will always ask that we do more to improve the revenue and the services operations to aid the Nigerian economy and serve the good people of Nigeria”, he remarked.

The meeting also touched on modernisation initiatives such as expanding the B'Odogwu (Unified Customs Management System), implementing the Authorised Economic Operators (AEO) programme, and enhancing anti-smuggling efforts—all aimed at boosting trade facilitation and national security.

Hon. Bisi Akingbade

In a landmark move to enhance safety on Nigeria’s inland waterways, the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, on Tuesday 29th April 2025, officially flagged off the distribution of 42,000 life jackets to waterway users across 12 selected riverine states.

The initiative, flagged off at a ceremony in Minna, Niger State, is aimed at curbing the alarming rate of boat mishaps and fatalities in the country’s riverine areas.

Each of the beneficiary states will receive 3,500 life jackets in the first phase of this strategic safety intervention by the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy. The initiative is one of the most comprehensive federal responses in recent times to the persistent loss of lives on Nigeria’s waterways.

“This event transcends mere ceremony; it embodies our unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of Nigerians who rely daily on our inland waterways,” Oyetola said in his address, emphasizing that the life jackets distribution is a proactive, life-saving response to the recurring boat accidents.

Citing the rising incidence of mishaps due to human error, poor equipment, and non-compliance with safety measures, the Minister called the trend a national emergency and underscored the urgent need for collective action.

He also highlighted the government’s introduction of the Inland Waterways Transportation Regulations, 2023 — also known as the Waterways Transportation Code — aimed at standardizing operations, enforcing compliance, and creating a more structured environment for investment and safety.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, who was represented by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji, lauded the Minister for launching the campaign in Niger State. He described the state as a “critical focal point” in the battle against waterway mishaps, revealing that Niger State recorded the highest casualties from boat accidents in 2024.

“The state government is determined to address this issue frontally through strict enforcement and proactive intervention,” Sarkin-Daji said.

Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Olufemi Oloruntola, reiterated the importance of wearing life jackets, noting that while vessel owners and operators are legally responsible for providing them, the government has stepped in to bridge the gap.

“Our mission here today is to reiterate and encourage the use of lifejackets by all inland water travelers. Safety on our waters is the first rule and remains a government priority. It deserves the cooperation of all,” Oloruntola stated. He urged continuous sensitization and public education to promote life jacket usage.

In addition to the life jackets, the Niger State Commissioner for Transport, Hajiya Hadiza Idris Kuta, expressed appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy for also donating three passenger boats, a water ambulance, and a patrol boat, through the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) to bolster the state’s marine safety efforts.

Goodwill messages were delivered by key stakeholders, including the representative of the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Chiefs, Brig. Gen. Yahaya Abubakar (Rtd); the Chairman of the Niger State House Committee on Transport; the Chairman of the Association of Boat Operators in Niger State; as well as representatives of boat commuters and community leaders. All the speakers commended the Ministry for its strategic and timely intervention.

As the flag-off concludes and distribution begins, the Federal Government is calling on state authorities, traditional institutions, waterway users, and transport operators to fully embrace the initiative, comply with safety standards, and promote a culture of accountability and preparedness across Nigeria’s inland waterways.

Heritage Bank (In-Liquidation): NDIC commences payment of N46.6 BN to depositors of insured limit

Heritage Bank (In-Liquidation): NDIC commences payment of N46.6 BN to depositors of insured limit

Bisi Akingbade

A liquidation dividend represents amount paid by the Corporation to depositors of a closed bank, in excess of the maximum insured limit, from the proceeds of sales of assets and recovery from the debtors of the failed bank. It also includes amounts paid to creditors and shareholders after all depositors have been fully paid.

In its continued commitment to ensuring that depositors of the defunct Heritage Bank are fully reimbursed, the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has declared first tranche of liquidation dividends totaling ₦46.6 billion from the proceeds of sales of the defunct bank’s assets and recovery of debts owed to the defunct institution.

The payment of the first tranche of the liquidation dividends commenced on Friday April 25, 2025. This initial dividend payment was at the rate of 9.2 kobo per Naira on a pro-rata basis to the depositors whose account balances exceeded the NDIC’s maximum insured limit of ₦5.0 million as at the time of the bank’s closure.

It will be recalled that following the revocation of the Heritage Bank’s operating license by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on June 3, 2024, the NDIC promptly began reimbursing insured deposits of up to N5 million per depositor.  To ensure seamless and efficient payment process, the NDIC used the depositors’ Bank Verification Number (BVN) to locate alternate account number of depositors in other banks and automatically credited them with the insured amount. Furthermore, the Corporation leveraged the existing records used in the payment of the insured amount to facilitate the disbursement of first tranche of liquidation dividends. Consequently, any depositor with amount in excess of N5.0 million who was paid insured amount but did not receive the payment the liquidation dividends should approach the nearest NDIC office or contact us on the telephone numbers below.

In the Meantime, depositors of the defunct banks who do not maintain alternative bank account and were not paid the insured amount, are advised to visit the nearest NDIC office or go to the claims page on the Corporation’s website, www.ndic.gov.ng to download, complete and submit deposit verification form for the payment of the insured amount and where applicable, the first tranche of their liquidation dividends.

The Corporation wishes to reassure public that this payment represents only the first tranche of liquidation dividends. Further payments will follow as more assets of the defunct Heritage Bank are realized and outstanding debts are recovered. The NDIC remains committed to its vigorous efforts in assets recovery and ensuring all eligible depositors are reimbursed.

Nigeria Customs Service Rakes in N1.751Trillion,  Seized Goods Worth N7.698Bn
    CGC BASHIR ADEWALE ADENIYI

Bisi Akingbade

The Comptroller General of Customs, CGC, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi has announced an impressive revenue collection for Q1 2025 with a total sum of ₦1,751,502,252,298.05 (One Trillion, Seven Hundred and Fifty-One Billion, Five Hundred and Two Million, Two Hundred and Fifty-Two Thousand, Two Hundred and Ninety-Eight Naira, Five Kobo).

CGC Adeniyi made disclosure while briefing on the activities of Nigeria Customs Service for the first quarter of year 2025, at the Customs Headquarters, Maitama Abuja.

His words "Against our annual target of ₦6,580,000,000,000.078.41% increasezed0, the first quarter's proportional benchmark stood at ₦1,645,000,000,000.00. I'm proud to announce we've exceeded this target by ₦106.5 billion, achieving 106.47% of our quarterly projection. This outstanding performance represents a substantial 29.96% increase  compared  to  the  same  period  in  2024,  where  we  collected ₦1,347,705,251,658.31.

"Our month-by-month analysis reveals even more encouraging details of this growth trajectory. January's collection of ₦647,880,245,243.67 not only surpassed its monthly target of ₦548.33 billion by 18.12%, but also showed a remarkable 65.77% year-on-year growth. February's ₦540,105,439,535.18 exceeded its target by 1.3% while achieving 19.97% growth over 2024 figures. March maintained this positive trend with ₦563,516,567,519.20, delivering 2.7% above target and an 11.22% improvement over March 2024.

"These results substantiate our effective measures to curb revenue losses while streamlining compliant trade. The 29.96% annual increase and steady monthly collections confirm our strategy is working. We'll maintain this momentum through rigorous enforcement and strengthened partnerships.

The Comptroller General of Customs said that the Service has maintained robust anti-smuggling operations during the first quarter of 2025, recording 298 seizures with a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦7,698,557,347.67 which represents a significant 78.41% increase compared to the ₦4,315,162,568.35 recorded in Q4 2024, demonstrating heightened operational effectiveness. However, when compared to Q1 2024's
₦9,587,256,998.05,  the  Service  observed  a  19.70%  reduction  in  DPV,
attributable to improved compliance through sustained stakeholder engagement and the deterrent effect of our enforcement activities.

"Rice remained the most prevalent seized commodity, with 159 cases involving 135,474 bags valued at ₦939,309,698.00. Petroleum products followed with 61 seizures totaling 65,819 liters (₦43,336,160.81 DPV). Of particular note were 22 narcotics interceptions valued at ₦730,748,173.00, reflecting our intensified focus on combating drug trafficking. The Service also recorded three high-value wildlife product seizures with a remarkable ₦5,653,522,600.00 DPV, underscoring both the lucrative nature of this illegal trade and our commitment to environmental protection under international conventions.

Other notable seizures included textile fabrics (13 cases, ₦134,219,330.00 DPV), retreaded tires (5 cases, ₦104,599,000.00 DPV), and pharmaceuticals (1 case, ₦17,188,000.00 DPV).

On trade facilitation, the customs boss emphasized that during the first quarter of 2025, the Service processed a total of 327,928 Single Goods Declarations (SGDs) for imports, handling goods with a total mass of 4,910,640,283.33 kilograms and a Cost, Insurance, and Freight (CIF) value of ₦14,807,960,201,235.00.

"This represents a 5.28% increase in the number of import transactions compared to the 311,492 SGDs processed in Q1 2024, reflecting growing confidence in our trade facilitation measures.

"The significant 40.14% increase in the mass of imports processed (from 3,504,173,117.33 kg in Q1 2024) demonstrates robust growth in import volumes, while the 26.72% increase in CIF value (from ₦11,685,677,810,129.00 in Q1 2024) indicates a shift towards higher-value goods.

"In Q1 2025, the Service processed 8,153 export shipments (SGDs), representing a 6.4% decrease from Q4 2024 (8,710 SGDs) and a 24.4% decline from Q1 2024 (10,786 SGDs). Despite fewer transactions, export mass reached
5.03 billion kilograms - a 10% reduction from Q4 2024's 5.58 billion kg but a remarkable 348% increase from Q1 2024's 1.12 billion kg. The CIF value stood at ₦21.51 trillion, showing a 19% increase from Q4 2024's ₦18.07 trillion while remaining stable compared to Q1 2024's ₦21.58 trillion. This data clearly suggestive of Nigeria's accelerating shift toward bulk commodity exports, with significantly larger shipments being processed through fewer transactions, while maintaining consistent total export value - reflecting both changing trade patterns and improved processing efficiency in our export systems.

"The total trade value handled by the Service in Q1 2025 amounted to
₦36,317,925,576,290.00, demonstrating Nigeria's substantial participation in international trade despite global economic challenges. This performance reflects our ongoing commitment to implementing trade facilitation measures that enhance Nigeria's competitiveness in the global market.

According to the CGC Adeniyi, among key initiatives and achievement with significant milestones modernisation and institutional development agenda includes B'Odogwu Platform Expansion,  to enhanced operational efficiency and improved service delivery to our stakeholders and Authorized Economic Operators (AEO) Programme which was officially launched on 14 February for expedited clearance, reduced inspections, and enhanced predictability in customs procedures for qualifying operators.

OJOKORO RUMOUR PEDDLERS: LET MOBOLAJI SANUSI BE

OJOKORO RUMOUR PEDDLERS: LET MOBOLAJI SANUSI BE
By Sulaiman Adeniji

The moment for undeniable truth and political clarity is now. Truth rises above deceit and falsehood, exposing the desperation of its perpetrators. As always, truth, despite the machinations of falsehood merchants, illuminates the path forward.

Truth allows individuals and communities to grow and flourish. The people of Ojokoro deserve to know the truth about the most capable chairmanship prospect in the upcoming local government election.

To all in Ojokoro and Lagos State at large who are interested in the facts, Mr. Mobolaji Sanusi is a respected force in his community. It is incontrovertible that he has, over the years, been consistently involved, both morally and financially, in the activities of the progressive party (AC/ACN/APC) during electioneering campaigns and beyond, at both ward and local government levels. This stands in stark contrast to the lies being peddled by individuals masquerading as political saints in Ojokoro LCDA.

Contrary to these misleading narratives, Mr. Sanusi was nominated for a commissionership position from Ifako Ijaiye Local Government Area, which includes Ojokoro LCDA. His nomination letter was endorsed by the party chairmen of both LGAs, the two council chairmen, two members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, and the current member of the House of Representatives. If Mr. Sanusi were truly unknown in the community, such influential figures would not have endorsed his candidacy. The rumour peddlers should find another tale to tell and leave this principled gentleman alone.

Mr. Sanusi, a former managing director of the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency, remains a steadfast advocate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political ideology. If a man does not boast about his accomplishments, it does not mean he is an outsider. As the adage goes, an empty vessel makes the loudest noise.

Mr. Sanusi loves his community and has lived among the Ojokoro people for nearly three decades. Even during his time in government, he never relocated to Lagos’ more affluent districts, despite having the means to do so.

The falsehoods targeted at Mr. Sanusi, a tested, principled, and focused former public office holder and a trusted political protégé of President Tinubu, have fallen flat in the face of facts.

All we ask is for Mr. Sanusi to help bring Ojokoro out of the woods.
This is the will of WE, the people of Ojokoro, and so shall it be.

When a political analyst, Mr Oluwakemi Dauda was contacted about the issue, he said:
"but this wouldn’t surprise any mind with wily wisdom at this time in our Local Government. And make no mistake about it, every little news about his political ambition from now will be given a monstrous interpretation, his voice would be misrepresented and made to rankle while his silence will be given a tinge of cold complicity for anything that is contrary to interest of his enemies or tersely put, anything that is against the interest of some of his political opponents.

" So, I ask, why? Why should an undoubted political tactician like Mobolaji Sanusi be perpetually pitched against the party he was there and worked tirelessly  for at its formation and played the enviable protagonist in the political drama that climaxed in its electoral victory and remained steadfast and optimistic about their political prognosis up till tomorrow.

"For me, it is of optimal importance at this time to begin to interrogate these sloppy tantrums because those doom and gloom merchants who strive daily to disparage, denigrate and denounce a man’s manifest achievements will continue to construct and reconstruct their own truth if unchallenged. Because Mobolaji  Sanusi's contributions can be seen with our very eyes. Therefore, we must not allow them to defraud history in our LCD.

Mobolaji Sanusi, Dauda said, " did not only invest his time, incisive mind and strategic thinking, he staked his capital towards the wellness of many within and outside Lagos State How then could anyone speak with such irritating impertinence that Bolaji Sanusi has contributed nothing to our party APC, our local government and the state

So, without question, Bolaji Sanusi has nothing else to prove. We should able to tell ourselves some hard truth. And it is that if there are three people in this local government today that can mobilise the needed human capital and strategically lead our LCDA to transition into an inspired, forward-looking and economically viable area, Barrister  Mobolaji Sanusi is certainly, unequivocally, one of them.

This was achieved while concurrently managing the demanding responsibilities of superintending the Public Relations Unit of the Nigeria Customs Service.

"My acknowledgement would be incomplete without recognising individuals crucial to this success. Firstly, my mother, and secondly, my late father, to whom this thesis is dedicated. Thirdly, the deeply supportive Head of the Department of Theatre Arts, University of Abuja, Dr. Roseline Yacim; and finally, the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR. NDLEA Sets Ablaze largest seizure of 1.6m kilograms illicit drugs in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo

NDLEA Sets Ablaze largest seizure of 1.6m kilograms illicit drugs in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo
... Times have changed, we’re fully prepared to hold those who defy the law accountable, Marwa warns barons, traffickers

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has destroed heaps of illicit drugs weighing about 1.6 million kilograms of assorted illicit substances seized across Lagos, Ogun and Oyo state.

in what is till date the largest volume of seizures to be set ablaze at a time in the history of the Agency.
The public destruction of the illicit substances witnessed by representatives of government officials, traditional rulers, clergymen, other security agencies, international partners, NGOs and community leaders, among others, was conducted today at an isolated location at Ipara, along Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Ogun state.

Some of the illicit drugs destroyed include 123 kilograms of cocaine; 46.8 kilograms of heroin; 1.4 million kilograms of cannabis; 148,000 kilograms of codeine syrup; 3,244.26 kilograms of tramadol; 1,544 kilograms of skuchies; and 111 kilograms of methamphetamine, among others.
Speaking at the occasion, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) said the exercise is a testament to the Agency’s steadfast commitment to tackling the scourge of drug trafficking in the country. “The sheer volume of seizures, which totals approximately 1.6 million kilograms, serves as a reminder of the grave danger these substances pose to public health until they are completely and irreversibly destroyed. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA,  operates under a clear mandate to reduce these narcotics to rubble",

"At all times, we discharge this duty with the utmost seriousness and diligence”, he stated.

He warned those involved in drug trafficking that the times have changed and there will be no breathing space or any safe haven for them in Nigeria.

He said “To those still involved in the illicit drug trade, we will persist in reminding them that times have changed. The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains unwavering in its commitment to providing the leadership and political will required to eradicate this menace. At the NDLEA, we are fully prepared to pursue our objective of holding accountable those who defy the law.

"In the past four years, we have successfully prosecuted and got convicted 10,572 such offenders, who are now serving various jail terms.”

He expressed appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo for their support for the Commands and operations of the Agency in their respective states.

The NDLEA boss who was represented at the occasion by the Agency’s Director of Assets and Financial Investigation (DAFI), Dr. Ibrahim Abdul, justified the public destruction of the confiscated drugs. “The rationale is simple: to show transparency and accountability. By making this process open, we affirm our collective resolve against the insidious activities of illicit drug trafficking. This exercise is not merely symbolic—it is forensic, grounded in evidence. Random laboratory tests are carried out to confirm the authenticity of the seized items. The substances are destroyed with the approval of the court after the cases linked to them have been brought to closure, following arrests and successful prosecution”, he stated.
He said the event represents a significant milestone in the history of the Agency because

“It is the public destruction of the largest seized narcotics across a spectrum of commands under NDLEA Zone 9 and Zone 11, which comprise the Lagos Strategic Command, Ogun State Command, Oyo State Command, MMIA Strategic Command, Lagos Seaports, Idiroko Border Command, and Seme Border Command”, adding that “while this accomplishment reflects our determination, it also underscores the scale of the challenge we continue to face.”

While commending the unwavering dedication of our officers, “who are working tirelessly to ensure that we do not fail in our assigned task of curbing illicit drug trafficking”, Marwa thanked both local and international partners who have continued to contribute to the success of the work of the Agency.
“Likewise, our international partners—such as the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (US-DEA); International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Bureau (INL) of the US; United Kingdom Border Force; National Crime Agency (NCA) of the UK, the French Police; the German Police,  and others—who are playing pivotal roles in bolstering our efforts. I am also deeply grateful to First Bank of Nigeria, Fidelity Bank, Sterling Bank, and other stakeholders including the Nigerian Military, Customs, Police, Civil Defence, Immigration, FRSC, NAFDAC, and a host of others for their support, embodying the collaborative spirit necessary for effective drug control in society”, he added.

While noting that the drug scourge is a social, economic and public health crisis, Governor Abiodun said “We must invest in prevention through education, through counseling and youth empowerment initiatives. We must strengthen rehabilitation centres and provide support systems for those battling addiction.”

MAJAN: National Single Window Will Reduce Clearance Time to 24 Hours, Says Project Lead

MAJAN: National Single Window Will Reduce Clearance Time to 24 Hours, Says Project Lead
Bisi Akingbade

The vision of National Single Window is to reduce the clearance time for import and export processes from averagely 10-18 days to within 24 hours, the Project Lead, Mr. Tola Fakolade has disclosed.

Speaking during the Maritime Journalists Association of  Nigeria (MAJAN) one day seminar titled: Transforming Trade Facilitation "The Role of National Single Window In Enhancing Economic Efficiency" at Rockview Hotel in Apapa, Lagos,
he noted that the National Single Window Project is one of the transformational  initiatives of the current administration which create a centralized, digital platform for the submission, processing, and approval of trade-related documentation linking various government agencies, importers and all the service providers together.

According to Fakolade, National Single Window will streamline clearance time and cost which will enhance effectiveness of doing business in the nation's ports.

Represented by Mr. Peter Ekunkoya, Fakolade emphasized that National Single Window will ensure significant reduction in the time and cost associated with import and export activities and makes Nigeria competitive in the global market.

"The National Single Window will enhance transparency in trade operations, reduce bureaucratic delays and increase efficiency which will not only improve on our ease of doing business but will positively impact on Foreign direct Investment leading to GDP growth.
Project Directo NSW, Peter Ekunkoya

"Fakolade affirmed that since the inauguration of the Project by the President on April 16th, 2024, we have been engaging across different stakeholder groups in putting together the framework and Governance structure for its implementation.

"As we embark on this journey, we recognize the challenges that have historically plagued our importation processes—lengthy clearance times, bureaucratic hurdles, and a lack of coordination among various regulatory agencies. The National Single Window aims to address these issues by providing a single platform where all trade-related information and documentation can be accessed and processed seamlessly. It signals the beginning of what I believe will be a groundbreaking journey—one that will modernize our trade processes, facilitate economic growth, and place our country at the forefront of trade facilitation worldwide.

He further said that the success of the National Single Window Project hinges on  active participation and cooperation of all agencies involved and complimented enabling infrastructure to support the achievement of our objectives of efficiency and compliance with international standards and best practices.
AC Seme Area Command, Abba Gana Umar

The Area Controller, Seme Customs Command, Comptroller Ben Oramalugo Ph.D, also in his goodwill message described the theme of the seminar as both timely and vital.

"It reflects the forward-thinking vision shared by maritime stakeholders toward seamless trade facilitation and national development," the controller stated.

Oramalugo's ably represented by the  Assistant Controller, Abba Gana Umar, stated that since the controller assumed office at the Seme Area Command, he has  championed several reforms geared towards enhancing revenue generation enforcing compliance, and facilitating legitimate cross-border trade. Under his leadership, the Command has recorded improved revenue collections, strengthened anti-smuggling operations, and deepened stakeholder engagement across the Border community. His administration has strengthened collaboration with sister agencies and traditional leaders in line with the Nigeria Customs Service mandate and the broader goals of national economic growth
Senior Forwarder and Nigeria Trade Facilitation expert, Registrar, NAGAFF Academy,  Fwdr Francis Idowu  Omotosho,

The Senior Forwarder and Nigeria Trade Facilitation expert, Registrar, NAGAFF Academy,  Fwdr Francis Idowu  Omotosho, in his own contribution explained that the National Single Window is a global trade facilitation tool rooted in international agreements such as the International Maritime Organization,IMO Convention on the Facilitation of International Maritime Traffic, FAL, the World Customs Organization, WCO, Kyoto Convention, and the World Trade Organization (WTO) Trade Facilitation Agreement.

He said that there are three categories of National Single Windows globally, which are Single Window for Foreign Trade Clearance Formalities, Single Window for Logistics Coordination and the National Integral Single Window. He noted that the latter model represents the most comprehensive approach but also complex, as it involves stakeholders from different legal and administrative backgrounds.

Omotosho noted that a five lesses agenda will be needed for a fully optimized cargo clearance system across Nigeria’s seaports, airports, and land borders with Paperless Operations, which is a 100% electronic processing with one single clearance approval document, Cashless Operations, which is full use of electronic payment systems. Timeless Operations, which is 24-hour cargo clearance and surveillance; and Taxless Operations, which is a simplified taxation through a single tax point and reduced tariffs.

Earlier, the President, MAJAN, Mr. Jerry Aguigbo in his welcome address, said that the association has carefully chosen this seminar topic on Transforming Trade Facilitation Through National Single Window System to fully stress its impact on the Nigerian economy.

Jerry said the seminar aims to explore the concept of the National Single Window, its objectives and its potential to streamline trade processes while enhancing economic efficiency in Nigeria key areas of discussion will include the goals of the NSW project, stakeholders' roles, implementation strategies, and its alignment with both national and regional trade facilitation initiatives such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA).

He stated that the event will also delve into the "potentials of the International Cargo Tracking Note (ICTN)" and its implications for the Nigerian port industry.

"This seminar will serve as a platform for stakeholders across government, the private sector and service providers to collaborate, share knowledge, and chart a path toward economic growth through trade facilitation reforms.

"We Intend to collectively explore strategies for enhancing Nigeria's trade efficiency and fostering regional integration," he stressed.
