Comptroller Matawale Emphasises Discipline, Integrity, Professionalism @ Kebbi Area Command 1st 2026 Parade

The Kebbi Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has convened its first parade of the 2026 operational year, bringing together officers and men of the Command in a ceremony that combined solemn remembrance, renewed commitment to national duty and a comprehensive health screening for all personnel.

Comptroller Ibrahim MM MNIM, fdc extended New Year wishes to officers and their families, and paid tribute to fallen colleagues who lost their lives in service, offering prayers for their souls and comfort for their families.

In his address, he  expressed deep appreciation to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, PhD, Chairperson of the World Customs Organization, WCO, Council, for his visionary leadership, unwavering support, and dedication to the welfare of officers across the nation.

He noted that the CGC’s commitment to professionalism, innovation, and discipline continues to inspire the Service to new heights of excellence.

Comptroller Matawalle emphasized that the parade was more than a routine gathering, it was a moment of reflection, recommitment, and renewed dedication to the Service’s core mandate; securing Nigeria’s borders, protecting the national economy, preventing smuggling and economic sabotage and facilitating legitimate trade and revenue generation. He urged all officers to embody loyalty, vigilance, and excellence in their duties.

He charged officers to uphold the 7Cs of the Nigeria Customs Service Courtesy without loss of dignity, Clear questions, Careful examination, Clean hands in all respects, Command attention, Control situations, and Consult colleagues. These principles, he stressed, are essential guides for conduct at border posts, in the field, and within the Command.

Discipline was highlighted as the bedrock of the Service. The CAC made clear that negligence or any betrayal of trust would not be tolerated while dedication, loyalty, and excellence would be recognized and rewarded. He reminded officers that each is an ambassador of the NCS, and their conduct reflects on the Service’s reputation in both public and private life.

The Command is located  on critical international borders with Niger and Benin Republics, Kebbi Area Command plays a frontline role in combating smuggling and illegal trade.

Comptroller Matawalle expressed concern over prevailing security challenges within the border corridors and charged officers to remain vigilant, proactive, and security-conscious at all times. He emphasized the need for improved intelligence gathering, strict adherence to operational procedures, and strengthened collaboration with sister security agencies, host communities, and other stakeholders to effectively tackle insecurity.

The Command also reaffirmed its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, initiatives, including the construction of boreholes and the supply and installation of solar-powered street lights in border communities. These efforts aim to foster goodwill, improve living conditions, and enhance security in the region.

As part of the parade, a comprehensive health check was carried out for all officers, underscoring the Command’s commitment to the well-being of its personnel. Recognizing that _health is wealth_, the leadership prioritized this exercise to ensure that every officer is physically fit, mentally alert, and prepared to perform their duties with maximum effectiveness.

Comptroller Ibrahim noted that a healthy force is a strong force, capable of safeguarding borders, combating smuggling, and facilitating trade with vigor and precision. The initiative reinforces the Service’s dedication to maintaining a resilient, disciplined, and high-performing team.

The Kebbi Area Command reaffirmed its commitment to discipline, professionalism, and the 7Cs, standing united as a frontline force protecting Nigeria’s borders and economy. The Customs Area Controller of Kebbi Command,  Comptroller Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim, fdc has organised General Sanitation Exercise across the Customs Headquarters and Sam Ango Barracks, Birnin Kebbi.

During the exercise, the CAC while addressing the officers, emphasized that the essence of the activity was to instill a sense of cooperation between the rank and file, and to demonstrate the importance of working together to achieve collective goals.

 He further stated that a clean and conducive environment provides the right state of mind needed to effectively and seamlessly carry out the mandate of the Service.

In conclusion, he directed OCs and Patrol Team Leaders to extend the sanitation exercise across all border stations and outstations. He also assured that such activities would be conducted regularly.

 The Assistant Superintendent of Customs IAg. Public Relations Officer, Kebbi Area Command , Mubarak Mustpha stated in the press release that 

the exercise included sweeping, weeding, raking, burning refuse, and general cleaning of both residential areas and the surrounding environment.

The event concluded with a brief discussion on self-development between the CAC and officers, followed by refreshments.

The Customs Area Controller,  Comptroller Chidi Chukwumeziri Nwokorie has reinstated a medical checkup and weekly routine exercise to boost officers health and morale in order to carry out the Service’s core mandates effectively..

Comptroller Nwokorie, on Thursday, 19th of June 2025 at the Command’s premises, said in his opening remarks that  the exercise is to portray the CGC’s motive to strike a balance between work and health which is known as Work-Life balance.

In a press release issued by the Superintendent of Customs Public Relations Officer, Kebbi Area Command, Mohammed Tajuddeen Salisu  stated that the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Chidi Chukwumeziri Nwokorie urged Officers not to perceive the exercise as something they are coerced to partake in but as a mandate to check mate their health status in case of any unforeseen health issue.

He further reiterates that henceforth, there is going to be medical check- up every two weeks and a mandatory weekly exercise to strengthen the fighting spirit of Officers and Men of the Command in order to carry out the Service’s core mandates effectively.

The exercise was concluded by engaging Officers in various types of sport particularly football, Basket Ball, Table Tennis, etc..

Kebbi Area Command has witnessed  a shift in power on Thursday, the 6th of February, 2025 as the Comptroller Chidi Chukwumeziri Nwokorie takes over the mantle of leadership at the Kebbi Area Command while Comptroller Iheanacho Ernest Ojike proceeded for retirement. 

The New Customs Area Controller  Chidi Chukwumeziri  Nwokorie in his address of welcome at the command conference room charged his officers to be professional, disciplined and be mindful of their core mandates as they discharge their duties in their various Area Of Responsibility (AOR).

He further seeks the cooperation of the officers and men of the Command and thanked the outgoing boss for his land mark achievements while in active service he pledged not to derail from his policies but build on them for continuity.

Furthermore, the Outgoing Customs Area Controller Iheanacho Ernest Ojike acknowledged the unwavering support he enjoyed from the Command officers, sister agencies, Kebbi State Government and stakeholders during his stay and pleaded for same in honour of his successor.

The grand handing over ceremony which was held at the Command’s conference room brought top Customs officers with goodwill messages from the attendees who expressed positive opinions and emotions on the life of the retiring Comptroller.

As part of the corporate social responsibility of Nigeria Customs Service, the Customs Area Controller of Kebbi Command Comptroller Iheanacho Ernest Ojike has extended  hands of blessings to the leaders of tomorrow by paying a charity visit to Gwandu Emirates primary school on Tuesday, 10 December 2024 in Kebbi State.

According to the press release signed by the Superintend of Customs, Public Relation Officer of Kebbi Area Command, Mohammed Tajuddeen Salisu highlighted that the controller on his visit donated writing materials such as books, pencils, biros, and foodstuffs to over 1,700 pupils of the famous Gwandu Emirate Model Primary School, Birnin Kebbi in Kebbi State. 

During the session, Comptroller Ojike emphasized that the charity visit to the school was meant to interact with the pupils to highlight the mandate of Customs as provisioned by the federal government constitution and draw their attention to the need for them to understand the laws of the land and contribution of Customs to National economy.

He further stressed the need for the pupils to understand the effect of smuggling on the national economy and why Nigerians should not indulge in such nefarious acts.

While Malam Aminu Sani the headmaster accepts the donations, he describes the gesture as a form of support to the pupils. Also, he portrays Nigeria Customs as a compassionate and responsible government organization.

Furthermore, the representative of the Emirates Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Bashir KKB Galadiman Gwandu said the chairman of the council of chiefs, emir of Gwandu Alhaji Iliyasu Bahir is extending his heartfelt message and blessings to the controller and his team for this kind gesture.
