The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, MWUN has disclosed the victory of redundancy extra - gratuity court case won against Intels.
Intels, who is the principal employer of the AMS contract staff had initially paid redundancy extra - gratuity to its 34 permanent staff and declined negotiation with the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, MWUN, in order to pay same money to the other 599 contract AMS staff affected by the same redundancy exercise.
In view of the forgoing, the court has ordered in its ruling against Intels and AMS to negotiate with the Union and pay the said extra-gratuity to all the 599 affected workers as was done to its permanent staff.
In a press statement issue by the Head of Media, MWUN, Comrade John Ikemefuna, stated that the court also ruled that it was wrong for Industrial Arbitration Panel (IAP) to agree to state the amount workers should be paid without negotiation ; hence, the trade dispute that was declared by the Union because of Intels' refusal to come for a round table negotiation which was the exact reason Intels' non compromising stance was referred to IAP.
The Union has however, won the court case against Intels to negotiate and to do the needful with the Union so that the unpaid extra - gratuity be given to the affected workers as was initially called for by the Union.
