Ex- Ekiti Gov. Applauds Appointment Of Dr Akinola, Sen. Adetunmbi As SWDC MD, Chairman

Ex- Ekiti Gov. Applauds Appointment Of Dr Akinola, Sen. Adetunmbi As SWDC MD, Chairman

Bisi Akingbade

The former governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has applauded President Bola Tinubu's appointment of Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi and Dr Charles Akinola as Chairman and Managing Director of South West Development Commission (SWDC), saying they are primed for success.

In a chat with Journalists, Dr Fayemi said Dr Adetumbi and Dr Akinola are both intellectually prepared for the appointments and stated further that the President's decision was synonymous with putting a round peg in a round hole.

Dr Fayemi who is also a former Minister of Mines and Steel, said both had been involved in the development trajectory that started at the Afenifere Renewal Group through the Yoruba Academy to the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN).

"The appointment of Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi and Dr Charles Akinola as Chairman and Managing Director was an inspired decision worthy of commendation. It’s clearly a round peg-in-a-round-hole decision.

"They are intellectually prepared both as Development Economists, Policy advocates and operations experts. Both had been involved in the development trajectory that we started at the Afenifere Renewal Group through the Yoruba Academy to the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria - DAWN which commenced activities in 2013 with all the governments of the SW fully subscribed to it.

"When we included the establishment of Regional Development Commissions in the APC manifesto in 2015 as APC Director of Policy and Strategy, the vision was to provide alternative but complementary vehicles for accelerating sustainable development without undermining sub-national and national vehicles. Unfortunately, President Buhari’s government was only able to achieve the North East Development Commission and the North West Development Commission signed into law before his exit. President Tinubu has accelerated that vision by signing into law and establishing the remaining four commissions," Dr Fayemi stated.

Speaking further, the former Chairman of Nigeria Governors' Forum expressed optimism that the SWDC wouldn't be another layer of bureaucracy without tangible developmental outcomes, saying the South West Governors Forum had set up a technical committee in 2020 to focus on initiatives that will deepen regional integration.

"It is hoped, though, that the commissions, particularly in the South West, will resist the temptation of being yet another layer of bureaucracy without tangible developmental outcomes. To ensure that, the South West Governors Forum in setting up the technical committee chaired by Dr Akinola in 2020, directed that the Commission should only focus on initiatives that will deepen regional integration such as regional energy and transportation infrastructure projects, as well as regional digital economy initiatives and not cosmetic initiatives called empowerments or constituency projects that will not produce tangible benefits to the population.

"So, with the right enabling environment and his institutional memory on where this laudable initiative came from, I have no doubt that Senator Adetunmbi, Dr Akinola and the team are primed for success and I wish them well," he stated.

Safety-First Culture: Oyetola Flags Off 3,500 Life Jacket Distribution Campaign in Lagos
…Tasks Boat Operators on Water Safety, Commits to Zero Mishap Vision

Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, has officially launched the distribution of 3,500 life jackets in Lagos State, as part of the Federal Government’s nationwide water safety campaign aimed at enhancing security on Nigeria’s inland waterways.

The event, held during a Marine Safety Sensitization and Life Jackets Distribution Exercise in Lagos, underscores the ministry’s unwavering commitment to a safety-first culture, particularly in riverine communities where water transport is a daily mode of movement.

Represented by Dr. Mercy Ilori, a Director in the Ministry, Oyetola disclosed that the initiative—already carried out in Niger, Bayelsa, Anambra, and Akwa Ibom States—would extend to other coastal states over the coming months, with a target of reaching 12 states within the shortest possible time.

Highlighting the importance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the Minister outlined three core pillars of the campaign which include: Enforcement of the Inland Waterways Transportation Regulations 2023, Ongoing public sensitization on safety, and Provision of life-saving equipment, including life jackets

Oyetola praised the proactive efforts of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in transforming water transportation in Lagos and commended the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) for its regulatory oversight and public awareness drives.

Calling for grassroots participation, the Minister urged boat operators, community leaders, and transport unions to adopt the life-saving slogan: “No life jacket, no entry.” He stressed that life jackets are “shields, not inconveniences,” and called on all stakeholders to make water safety a shared responsibility.

Also speaking at the event, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, described the initiative as a timely intervention. With over 85% of daily commutes in Lagos currently done via road, Osiyemi emphasized the importance of expanding safe and reliable water transport to meet the needs of the state’s growing population.

“This initiative is not just about safety gear; it’s about building a safety culture,” Osiyemi said, thanking the Federal Ministry and NIWA for their support and partnership.

In his address, NIWA Managing Director, Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, emphasized that in the water transport sector, safety is the real measure of success. “While profitability is key in finance, safety is our profit here,” he stated.

He reiterated NIWA’s determination to achieve zero fatalities on Nigeria’s waterways and confirmed that six of the twelve targeted states have already benefitted from the campaign. “We are committed to reaching the rest in the next one to two years,” he said.

Oyebamiji highlighted the strict safety enforcement in Nigeria: “Here, if you don’t wear a life jacket, you don’t get into the boat. It’s that serious.”

Earlier, Mr. Damilola Emmanuel, General Manager of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), welcomed participants and applauded the Federal Government’s leadership on safety. “This is more than just a distribution—it is a significant step toward sustainable water transport. Safety is what keeps our waterways functional and reliable,” he said.

The event brought together stakeholders from across the marine and blue economy sector, reinforcing the shared vision of a safe, secure, and efficient inland water transport system across Nigeria.

Nigeria Customs Service in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, has commissioned the inaugural Nigeria–East/Southern Africa Air Cargo Corridor, marking a major milestone in regional trade facilitation and continental integration under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework. The historic flag-off event held on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, drew key government stakeholders and aviation industry players.

The high-level ceremony featured the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi and Ms Adebola Agunbiade, Director of Commercial and Business Development, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, who represented the Managing Director/CEO, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku.

In his keynote address, CGC Adeniyi described the flag-off as a strategic breakthrough that aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and underscores Customs' leadership in AfCFTA implementation.

“This is more than a ceremonial handover; it is a gateway to new opportunities for Nigerian businesses and proof that we are ready to lead Africa’s economic transformation through trade,” he said.

The CGC disclosed that Customs facilitated exports valued at ₦136.65 trillion in 2024, a 219.5% increase from the previous year. He added that Q1 2025 exports saw a further 349% surge compared to the same period in 2024, underscoring Nigeria’s increasing dominance in regional exports.

He revealed that as part of Customs’ commitment to supporting the trade corridor, the Service has introduced several enabling instruments, including issuing AfCFTA Certificates of Origin, digitalising export processes, and creating dedicated AfCFTA units across Customs commands.

Commending the inter-agency collaboration that birthed the corridor, CGC Adeniyi urged other regional airlines and cargo operators to replicate the model across maritime, road, and rail routes.

“This corridor must not stand alone. It is a template for future trade networks connecting seaports, airports, and borders for the prosperity of our people,” he declared.

He also thanked development partners, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), FAAN, and all logistics stakeholders, for their professionalism and support in executing the corridor.

“As we flag off this strategic route, we are flagging off a future of innovation, jobs, technology, and inclusive prosperity for the African continent,” the CGC concluded.

Hon. Minister Oduwole described the initiative as a practical policy action designed to fast-track Nigeria’s economic diversification through export trade.

“We are not just talking diversification, we are implementing it. Today’s launch signifies a turning point for our exporters, especially with the negotiated 50% freight rate reduction now in effect,” she said.

She added that the Ministry would continue to support Nigerian businesses in scaling up value-added production and market access under the AfCFTA platform.

The event's highlight was the symbolic loading and handover of Nigerian export cargo to Uganda Airlines, signifying the operationalisation of the corridor. The Country Manager of Uganda Airlines, Patrick Ziwa, received the cargo, commending Nigeria’s leadership in air cargo innovation within Africa.

“This is a strong statement by Nigeria to other African nations that regional trade is not just a vision it is already in motion,” Ziwa said.

Following the cargo loading, AfCFTA Certificates of Origin were issued to a group of compliant Nigerian exporters, enabling them to access preferential tariff regimes across the East and Southern African markets.

In her remarks, Ms Adebola Agunbiade reaffirmed FAAN’s commitment to providing infrastructure and policies supporting air cargo efficiency.

“FAAN, under the leadership of Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, is fully aligned with the national export strategy and will continue to make our airports drivers of economic development,” she stated.

This is another giant stride achieved by the Service under the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR. This technology facilitates efficient and timely clearance of goods; thereby, reducing delays and costs for businesses”.

Both officers and some stakeholders witnessed the historic release of the SGD on the indigenously developed platform. In a reaction to the process, the agent, Mr Iroegbu Samuel attested to the numerous advantages the Bódgwu has over Nigeria Integrated Customs Information System (NICISS II). “From my experience going through the process, from the capturing to the release was very short and fast. People should not entertain any fear or doubt because it’s not far different from the NICISS platform. However, it is more flexible”.

The Customs Area Controller thereby  invites stakeholders and the general public to key into the B'Odogwu’s technology to experience its benefits.

CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, High Commissioner of Canada to Nigeria
Pasquale Salvaggio,

…As NCS Intercepts 65 Stolen Vehicles, Over 1000 Parcels of Narcotics Through Joint Operations

Bisi Akingbade

Royal Canadian Mounted Police,  RCMP,  International Special Services has commended the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS,  for its unwavering commitment to safeguarding borders and disrupting transnational organised crime through strategic partnerships and intelligence-driven operations.

This recognition follows the recent recovery of 12 luxury vehicles by the RCMP Liaison Office in Lagos, adding to the 53 earlier recovered. This brings the total number of stolen Canadian vehicles intercepted in Nigeria to 65. These recoveries were made possible through the strong collaboration between the NCS, the RCMP, the Canadian Border Services Agency, CBSA, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, and Interpol Nigeria.

The commendation was formally made during an official ceremony held at the Canadian High Commission in Abuja, where the High Commissioner of Canada to Nigeria, His Excellency Pasquale Salvaggio, presented an Award of Recognition to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his leadership and the pivotal role of the Service in the fight against cross-border crimes.

In the citation read at the event, the Canadian envoy praised CGC Adeniyi for his sustained contributions to disrupting the operations of international crime syndicates and highlighted specific cases, including the interception of various exotic vehicles worth millions of dollars, as well as the seizure of several kilograms of synthetic cannabis, popularly known as 'loud', smuggled from Canada into Nigeria through multiple ports, airports and other unapproved routes.

“Through the support of the Nigeria Customs Service, in collaboration with Canadian and Nigerian law enforcement agencies, we have disrupted key international crime networks and safeguarded the integrity of our borders,” Salvaggio stated.

In his response, CGC Bashir Adeniyi appreciated the Government of Canada and reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation in combating illicit trade.

“This recognition reflects the success of our collaborative approach. We value our strong relationships with the RCMP, CBSA, EFCC, NDLEA, and Interpol. Together, we have delivered tangible results that benefit both our countries and global trade,” the CGC remarked.

He also advocated formalising the growing partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Nigeria Customs Service and the Canadian Border Services Agency to institutionalise cooperation on enforcement, intelligence exchange, and training.

Highlighting the global nature of modern crime, CGC Adeniyi emphasised that deeper engagement between Customs administrations across continents is crucial, especially as Nigeria and Canada are active members of the World Customs Organisation, WCO.

The RCMP, represented by Mr. Liam Price, Director General of International Special Services, acknowledged that the partnership with Nigeria Customs has significantly strengthened Canada’s international enforcement efforts and remains vital in tackling organised criminal networks.

FG Moves to Deepen Lekki Channel Beyond 16.5M

FG Moves to Deepen Lekki Channel Beyond 16.5M
OUTPUT CONSOLIDATION: Managing Director Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA,  Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, 3rd Right,  Managing Director Lekki Port  Mr. Qiang Wang <1st Left, Board Chairman Lekki Port, Mr. Abiodun Dabiri, 1st Right< and Executive Director Finance & Administration NPA, Vivian Richard-Edet, 2nd Right, on Saturday May 24th 2025 when the NPA Management team paid performance enhancement visit to Lekki Deep Seaport.

... On Lekki Port request for a reduction in Ship Dues, the NPA MD explained that many of the equipment the Authority buys to ensure efficiency at the ports are dollarised - Dantsoho

Bisi Akingbade

The Federal Government has given the nod for the maintenance dredging of the $1.5bn Lekki Deep seaport channel from its present 16.5metres to  17metres in the first instance as it targets 19meters depth.

Disclosing this over the weekend during his maiden visit to Lekki port, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, Abubakar Dantsoho in the company of senior management staff of the Authority, urged Lekki Port to consolidate transshipment volumes to landlocked neighboring countries.

According to Abubakar Dantsoho, "The rise in throughput volume at Lekki Port is exciting to us.

His words: "Lekki’s capacity to berth super post-panamax vessels and deliver rapid cargo and vessel turnaround positions is a game-changer for Nigeria’s export competitiveness, particularly for agro-allied products, as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) gains traction.

"The port’s efficiency is driving steady increases in transshipment numbers, meeting the maritime needs of neighboring countries and supporting NPA’s goal of achieving economies of scale.

"This enhanced competitiveness fuels demand, boosts foreign exchange inflows, and contributes significantly to Nigeria’s year-on-year trade surplus, reinforcing the national economy
"So it's very pleasing to note the rising export figures and we hope that the export volume is going to double or even triple in the nearest future. And because of that, we have to still reaffirm our commitment as NPA management to do what we can possibly do within our own powers and with the support of the Federal Government to ensure that this trend, this beautiful throughput trend you have shown us, continues to grow and increase.

"So what are we doing to ensure that this trend continues? We are doing about five things. Now, number one, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola,  with the recommendation of the Nigerian Port Authority has gotten the approval for the dredging of the channel at Lekki Port.

"This is something that we have been working towards, something that we've been discussing for almost two or three years. And finally, we give God the glory that it has happened.

"We have also syndicated a strategic partnership agreement with
China Harbour Engineering Company, CHEC to undertake the dredging in the overriding interest of trade facilitation".
But because we wanted to also enhance the relationship and make the partnership stronger in a concerted bid to grow Nigeria's trade volumes".

"So I think that's a clear indication of how serious and how supportive we can get when it comes to issues of Lekki Port."

On automation, the NPA MD stated that, "Now, the other thing I want to mention is the automation issue that you have raised. Now, luckily for you, and most likely because you are the most current or the latest port that we have in Nigeria, it is expected naturally that all those things that are required for a modern port should be here. Lekki Port is up to date with the technologies and we are very happy about that.

"The technology that is here will be part of the main requirements for the deployment of the port community system, which is a precursor for keying into the National Single Window.

"We are hoping that other port locations or other terminals will very soon also have 100 percent capability in terms of technology deployment so that once we deploy the Port Community System, keying into it would not be an issue. So I really appreciate that Lekki Port has done well in the area of technology deployment."

On channel survey, the NPA MD explained that the contract has been awarded.

"We have awarded the contract for the survey of the channel, which is also a major requirement of the international port and harbour and navigation systems. This will give us more optimisation in the area of channel management around Lekki Port."

On Lekki Port request for a reduction in Ship Dues, the NPA MD explained that many of the equipment the Authority buys to ensure efficiency at the ports are dollarised.

"We keep buying Navigational Bouys, Tug Boats and otherd to ensure efficiency in port operations across the country. Because many of the things that we buy are dolariser, in as much as it's necessary to lessen the burden of Lekki Port payments to government, Lekki Port should also know that we need to have more money to be able to buy more of these things and also ensure that personnel who are running them are also well paid.

"When the Single window is finally deployed, and 95 percent of port processes become paperless, the revenue at the ports will triple. Electronic transaction will completely or near completely eliminate unreceipted payments in our ports.

"When this happens, it is believed that we are going to make more money. At that point, I think NPA will look at the possibility of bringing down the Ship Dues."

The NPA MD also commended the Management of Lekki Deep Seaport for sustaining superior performance and remains unwavering in its commitment to providing every necessary support to optimize the port’s potential.

Speaking earlier, the MD of Lekki Port, Wang Qiang presented several key requests for policy support to the NPA MD. "We wish to request for an adjustment of Tariff Structure to reflect service costs and inflation, reduction in Ship Dues specifically for large vessels and feeders, to enhance port competitiveness.

"Provision of Night Pilotage Services to enable 24/7 operations and improve vessel turnaround time, amongst others," the Lekki Port MD stated.

The NPA MD also paid a visit to the $19.5bn Dangote Petrochemicals Refinery, and met Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote.

This success was recorded through Operation Whirlwind, a targeted enforcement drive against the smuggling of PMS outside Nigeria.

The National Coordinator of the operation, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs, ACG, Hussein Ejibunu
Announced the seizure during a press briefing at the Customs House in Yola, the Adamawa State Capital.

“Smugglers fled upon sighting Customs operatives, abandoning their illicit consignments in their desperate bid to evade arrest,” ACG Ejibunu said. He added that the operation aligns with the Federal Government’s broader economic protection goals under the guidance of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.

He emphasised that dismantling illegal fuel supply chains curbs scarcity stabilises market prices, and strengthens national security. “This is our contribution to safeguarding national resources and fostering economic resilience,” he said.

In line with Section 245 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023, the flammable petroleum products will be auctioned immediately, and the proceeds will be paid into the Federation Account.

ACG Ejibunu also called for deeper collaboration with border communities and encouraged traditional rulers to engage the youth meaningfully and dissuade them from smuggling activities, which he described as acts of economic sabotage.

“The fight against smuggling is not for Customs alone. It requires the partnership of communities, media, and all stakeholders,” he affirmed.

He appreciated the support of the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, and the Adamawa/Taraba Area Command. He acknowledged sister agencies for their unwavering cooperation throughout the operation.

…As NCS NPRO Maiwada Advocates Strategic Communication for Policy Impact

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) once again took centre stage at the ongoing 2025 Nigeria Public Relations Week (NPRW), holding in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, as the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, was officially installed as the Vice Chair of the Body of Advisers of the Nigeria Reputation Management Group (NRMG).

The NPRW, a flagship initiative of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), commenced on May 19 and will run through May 23, 2025. The edition has convened public relations professionals, policymakers, and key stakeholders to interrogate the intersection between communication and national development.

The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, declared the event open on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, reaffirming the government’s commitment to repositioning strategic communication as a tool for nation-building and investment attraction.

CGC Adeniyi’s appointment as Vice Chair of the NRMG advisory body marks a significant milestone, reinforcing the service's leadership in the public relations ecosystem. The CGC, who has consistently championed transparency, stakeholder engagement, and institutional trust, expressed confidence in the NRMG's vision.

“I consider it a privilege to be part of this important national assignment,” CGC Adeniyi said. “I have full trust in the capacity of this group, and I believe that with the calibre of individuals involved, a lot can be achieved in reshaping how Nigeria tells her story to her people and the world.”
He joins other distinguished personalities, including John Momoh, Chairman of Channels Television, who was installed as Chair of the NRMG Body of Advisers. Together, the advisory body is expected to guide the NRMG in its mission to project a coherent, credible, and consistent image of Nigeria across domestic and international fronts.

Adding to the Service’s presence at the high-level gathering, the National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, delivered a paper titled “Advances in Government, Policy and Regulatory Communication.” His presentation underscored the importance of strategic communication, a multi-channel approach, and intentionality in public sector messaging while showcasing how the Nigeria Customs Service is using modern communication tools to foster transparency and trust.

“The changing dynamics of governance and policy implementation require us to speak clearly, truthfully, and strategically. At Customs, we’ve learned that people don’t just want to be informed, they want to be understood and engaged,” Maiwada noted.

As the 2025 NPRW continues in Uyo, the Nigeria Customs Service's active engagement has once again positioned the agency as a thought leader in institutional communication, national branding, and policy advancement.

The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, on Wednesday received the Ambassador of France to Nigeria, His Excellency Marc Fonbaustier, in his office in Abuja in a visit that underscored the deepening maritime and diplomatic relations between both countries.

According to the press release issued by the Media & Communications Adviser to the Honourable Minister, Dr. Bolaji Akinola stated that the engagement came as Nigeria intensifies its campaign for election into Category C of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council, an ambition the Minister firmly anchored during the meeting.

Ambassador Fonbaustier, who was accompanied by Ms. Alice Ellenbogen, Political Counsellor at the French Embassy in Nigeria, was in the Ministry to discuss Nigeria’s participation in the upcoming World Oceans Day celebrations and the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3), scheduled to take place in Nice, France, from June 8 to 13, 2025. Minister Oyetola is leading Nigeria’s delegation to the event on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

During the meeting, Minister Oyetola made a strong case for France’s support for Nigeria’s bid to secure a seat in Category C of the IMO Council later this year. He emphasized that Nigeria, as the leading maritime nation in West and Central Africa and a gateway to the Gulf of Guinea, has played a pivotal role in advancing maritime safety, regional security, and ocean governance. He stated that Nigeria’s membership in the IMO Council would reinforce its contributions to international maritime regulation and sustainability, especially at a time when global collaboration is critical to addressing the complex challenges facing the world’s oceans.

Oyetola informed the French envoy of the recent approval of Nigeria’s National Policy on Marine and Blue Economy by the Federal Executive Council. The new policy, he said, provides a comprehensive framework to guide the sustainable development of Nigeria’s marine resources, stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and promote environmental protection. He explained that the policy aligns with the global ocean agenda and supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 14, which seeks to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources.

The Minister also highlighted Nigeria’s landmark achievements in maritime security, particularly in combating piracy and armed robbery in the Gulf of Guinea. He noted that through coordinated initiatives such as the Deep Blue Project and enhanced inter-agency collaboration, Nigeria has eliminated piracy incidents, transforming the Gulf of Guinea into a more secure maritime corridor for international shipping and trade.

Discussions also focused on Nigeria’s active participation in the forthcoming World Oceans Day and the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference. Building on the outcomes of the first two editions in 2017 and 2022, the third conference, to be co-chaired by France and Costa Rica, will convene under the theme “Accelerating action and mobilizing all actors to conserve and sustainably use the ocean.”

The conference in Nice is expected to generate concrete commitments and mobilize science-based solutions and financing toward the sustainable management of marine ecosystems.

Minister Oyetola reiterated Nigeria’s readiness to contribute meaningfully to the conference and stressed the country’s commitment to global cooperation in advancing ocean health, maritime security, and blue economy innovation. He expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his leadership and for entrusting him with the responsibility of representing Nigeria at such a critical global forum.

In response, Ambassador Fonbaustier praised the decision of President Tinubu to participate in UNOC3 through the leadership of Minister Oyetola. The Ambassador noted that France looks forward to Nigeria’s robust engagement at the conference and to furthering bilateral cooperation in marine sustainability, security, and development.

The meeting marks a significant moment in Nigeria’s maritime diplomacy and underscores the strategic importance of international collaboration as nations prepare to convene in Nice to chart a new course for the future of the ocean.
