LASG warns RTEAN members against disrupting peace


The Lagos State Government on has warned members of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN,not to disrupt the peace and tranquility being enjoyed in the state.


The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr Sola Giwa, gave the warning in a statement in Lagos.


He gave the warning after fracas broke out in some parts of the state, following a protest by some RTEAN members demanding the removal of the national president of their association.

NRC develops Train Track Access Framework to encourage PPP


The Managing Director, Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC,  Fidet Okhiria, said that the management of the corporation has developed a Train Track Access Framework to encourage Public-Private Partnership (PPP).


Okhiria said this during a press briefing held at the NRC’s Headquarters in Ebute Metta, Lagos.


He said  the establishment of Train Track Access Framework would enable third parties to use the track.

CIoTA HOLDS NATIONAL TRANSPORT SUMMIT IN NOVEMBER

The Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIoTA) will hold its 2022 National  Transport Summit in November.


The summit, with the theme, "Transport Safety And  Security Administration In Nigeria has Maritime Safety and Security in Nigeria; Safety and Security in Road Transportation In Nigeria; Strategic Issues In Transport Safety and Security In Nigeria;  Safety and Security of Road Transportation In Nigeria; and The Value of Life For the Evaluation of Safety and Security In Transportation as sub-themes.


The summit is slated for 29th, 30th November and 1st December, 2022 at  Shehu Musa Yar' Adua Centre, Abuja. 


The summit is expected to be chaired by the Chairman, MTN Foundation, Prince Julius Adelusi Adeluyi, while the Special Guest of Honour is the Minister of Transportation, Alhaji Jaji Muazu Sambo.


 President and Chairman, Governing Council/ Chief Host is Dr. Bashir Jamoh, the Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

Dethroned Baale of Shangisha sentenced to fifteen years imprisonment

A Lagos State High Court, sitting in Ikeja has sentenced the dethroned Baale of Shangisha in Magodo, Mutiu Ogundare, to fifteen years imprisonment for faking his own kidnap.

The court had on June 15 discharged  and acquitted the third defendant, Ogundare's wife, Abolanle that she had no link to the offences.

The Lagos State Government has declared its intentions on the construction of infrastructure to ensure seamless implementation of the Non-Motorised Transport (NMT) plan in the state.

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, made this known at the state’s maiden edition of “Car Free Day” in Lagos.

The Governor represented by the State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, explained that the Car Free Day was an avenue for a city like Lagos to appraise the state of its road network.

The Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Emmanuel Jime said smaller countries like Togo are deriving more value from their maritime industry than Nigeria. 


Speaking at a conference on ‘Retooling the Maritime Sector for Stronger Economic Growth’ organized by Maritime Anti-corruption Network (MACN) and the Convention on Business Integrity (CBI), he said “According to United Nations Conference of Trade and Development, (UNCTAD), Togo with a population of about 8 million people and GDP of $7 billion had a throughput of 1.7 million in 2020, while Nigeria with a population of 206 million people, GDP of about $429 billion had a lesser TEU of 1.5 million in 2020. This is as a result of inefficiency in our port operations which led to diversion of Nigeria-bound cargoes to other neighboring countries,” he said.

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have arrested an ex-convict, Onyeka Charles Madukolu at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja Lagos for importing 5.90 kilograms of cocaine concealed in cans of deodorants and ladies’ lip gloss into Nigeria.

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has registered the Board of Trustees of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) led by Dr. Taiwo Afolabi.

A press release signed by  the Acting National President, Dr. Kayode Farinto, said ANLCA after the expiration of the six (6) years tenure of the former Board  members from February 2014 to February 2020, held an Annual General Meeting (AGM) as stipulated by the ANLCA's constitution in December 2020 to elect new board members.

The  Lagos State Government, LASG, has served a seven-day ‘Removal Order’ notice to owners/drivers of trucks, tankers and trailers illegally parked under the Costain Bridge to Iganmu Area of the state.


The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr Sola Giwa, led officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, to serve the notice to the owners of the trucks in the area in Lagos on Tuesday.

The President,  National Association Government Approved Freight Forwarders,  NAGAFF,  Chief Tochukwu Ezisi, at the inauguration of the newly elected executive members of NAGAFF describes the Council for the Regulations of Freight Forwarding of Nigeria as its baby to be nurtured. 

Ezisi advised members of NAGAFF to pay their yearly subscription to CRFFN. "To continue to register and pay their annual subscription to the Council for the Registration of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN)".  He informed the house that the CRFFN is "An offspring and suckling of NAGAFF and we shall continue to feed her with our members".

The Maritime Journalists Association of Nigeria, MAJAN, at the commissioning of its Secretariat describes its emergence as the aftermath of the failed merger of various maritime journalists' group as brokered by the then Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuke Rotimi Amaechi.


The President of  MAJAN,  Comrade Ray UGOCHUKWU, made this known in his  address of welcome that the MAJAN was formed under the mango tree of National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders, NAGAFF.


Ugochukwu said that the founder of NAGAFF, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam a pillar of support provided a well furnished convenient facilities for MAJAN members to use freely in the course of their duties. NDIC Clinches Federal Government Platinum Level Award.


NDIC CLINCHES FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PLATINUM LEVEL AWARD. 


Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has been presented with the Federal Government Level Five Platinum Level award for outstanding performance in corporate governance and accountability by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR). 


The award is based on the Corporation’s outstanding score of Ninety-Three Percent (93%) in the BPSR Self-Assessment Tool (SAT) that was deployed to Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to assess and enhance service delivery.

According to him, the inauguration slated for Thursday, September 8, 2022, by 11 am prompt, at Apapa will be the best of its kind, as everything has been put in place to make the occasion a memorable one.

Customs: FOU  Zone 'A' arrests 10, intercepts carbide, bags of rice worth over N579.4m


Federal Operation Unit, FOU, Zone 'A' of Nigeria Customs Service in South-Western Nigeria have intercepted Twenty drums of carbide – a chemical that can be used in the manufacture of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and could cause danger to life and property.


The Ag. Compt. Hussein Ejibunu of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’,  disclosed this to newsmen in Lagos while briefing them on the unit’s activities, said that 10 suspects were also arrested and at various stages of investigation and prosecution over the seizures in August 2022.


According to him, the seizures have a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N579.4 million, while N46.3 million was recovered from “duty under-payments, under-valuation of imported items and wrong harmonised system (HS) code classification.”

Victor Ochei, said the E-Platform was conceived  in furtherance of the Agency's mandate to regulate the registration of Dockworkers Seafarers, Stevedoring company, Seafarer employer, Jetty, Terminal operators.


His word "The Maritime Labour E-platform is in furtherance of the Agency's mandate the registration and regulation of every  Dockworkers, Seafarer, Stevedoring company, Seafarer employer, Jetty, Terminal operators and Offshore Platforms or Terminals.

The 100% Compliance Team of National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) , has petitioned the Assistant Inspector of Police(AIG), Alkali Baba Usman over unbridled harassment, intimidation, detention and outright extortion of  their members by officers of the Zonal  Enquiry Bureau (ZEB). 


The National Chairman of the 100% Compliance Team of NAGAFF, Alhaji Tanko Ibrahim   in a petition letter  copied to the Senate Committee on Customs, Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Maritime), Assistant Inspector-General of Police (Maritime), Commissioner of police, (Western Ports), Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), Chairman CRFFN and the Registrar CRFFN accused the Bureau of writing series of invitation letters to them under the guise of facilitating an investigation only for them to be subjected to  interrogations about a long-gone consignment.

National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA in its quest to rid the society of illicit drug and drug trafficking menace  sensitises Igbologun Community Town, Snake Island, Lagos.

The Area Controller, Tin Can Island Port Command, Comptroller Mohammed Aminu Abubakar said:  "We are here today because of WADA which is a nomenclature for War Against Drug Abuse in our own society.


 "I believed every households and  community will be having one problem or the other with hard drugs in our mist . If it is not addition from using alcohol,  it is an additions from using other foreign drugs and even over the counter drugs like tramadol, panadol and paracetamol and so on.  And by nature when we talk of drug abuse in our own society is about  taking drugs  not in the  normal ways.


"So, right from the inception we realize that  in our own community in other to deal with the situation we must partner with everyone.  And the NDLEA especially the  Tin Can Area Command  considered Snake Island  community very important to our own activities in this place.
