Several dignitaries, including the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, Minister of Defence, Bashir Magashi and others, who attended the Chief of Army Staff’s annual conference 2020 physically, have started self-isolation following the death of a participant in Abuja.
In addition, the Nigerian Army also suspended the remaining activities scheduled for the ongoing annual conference.
A senior military officer identified the late participant as Maj. Gen. John Irefin, the General Officer Commanding, 6 Division, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State.
Reports have it he died from complications arising from coronavirus on Tuesday.
A statement by the acting Director, Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Sagir Musa, on Thursday urged all participants to go into self-isolation in line with safety protocols.
Several dignitaries physically attended the event including senior military officers, GOCs, principal military officers and others guests.
Part of the statement read, “All the participants have been mandated to immediately proceed on self-isolation in line with the Federal Government’s protocol for COVID- 19 and to prevent any further spread of the disease.”
Consequently, Buratai also reduced the number of invited guests for his son, Hamisu’s wedding scheduled for today, Friday.
